Quantifying clay affinity in the California Floristic Province: I'm currently compiling and assessing a list of vascular plant species with association, affinity, or endemism to clay soils. Following a framework modified from the serpentine affinity rankings of Safford et al., I am attempting to bin species into categories of association, weak affinity, high affinity, endemism, and strict endemism. The current species list is compiled from ecology notes in the Jepson eFlora, the California Rare Plant Inventory, and a comprehensive search of the California Consortium of Herbaria's online database for species with a substantial number of records containing terms indicating clay soils. A draft species list may be viewed here (link coming soon). If you have suggestions for species to add to this list, please do so here!Â
